Renovation of a listed property

2020 | Berne

In 2016, we were awarded the contract for the extensive renovation of Münzrain 3 following a public tender.
Originally built as a 2-storey vineyard house directly outside the city walls, the building has been extended and converted in 7 major construction phases over the past 460 years.
The Bondelihaus (named after the owner family in the 19th/20th century) still has a lot of original building fabric, which can be seen in the rich paintings from the Renaissance period, as well as in the largely baroque interiors and the neoclassical extensions.
Our task comprised the complete refurbishment incl.
renewal of all technical installations.
Great attention was paid to sound insulation.
For this purpose, large parts of the floors were removed, additionally improved in terms of statics and fire protection, and then reinstalled in several layers and soundproofed.
As a final layer, the wooden parquet floors, some of which were over 300 years old, were reinstalled.
Due to the unique history of the building and the historical finds, the property was closely monitored by the monument preservation authorities.
Building history, stratigraphic and dendrochronological investigations accompanied the renovation and led to the realization that Münzrain 3 is one of the most important buildings in terms of building history outside the city walls of Bern.
